Carole J Rost

Carole Joanne Rost, age 88, of Lakefield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Colonial Manor in Lakefield surrounded by her three daughters. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lakefield with Father Johnathan Fasnacht officiating. Visitation will take place prior to service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery immediately following the service.

Carole was born on May 26, 1933, on the family farm in Hunter Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. Carole was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lakefield. She graduated from Lakefield High School in 1950 and then attended Mankato State Teacher’s College and earned her teaching certificate. She taught elementary students in Adrian and Jackson, Minnesota until her marriage to William (Bill) Rost in 1955.

After their marriage, Carole and Bill built their home in Hunter Township where they farmed and lived until moving to assisted living in 2011. Carole was an essential co-partner in the farming operation.

As Bill often said, “This farm operation would not be successful without Carole.” She was a machine operator, farm money manager, veterinary assistant, and always ran a great chuckwagon, where she served many of her home-grown and home-made goodies.

Family and faith were most important to Carole. She had many wonderful years being a part of her daughter’s and grandchildren’s activities. She had a knack for making every occasion special. She loved music, especially playing the piano, and singing in the church choir. She enjoyed sewing, playing golf, baking breads, and traveling.

Carole is survived by her three daughters: Teresa (John) Gentzkow of Cincinnati, OH, Deb (Paul) Rentschler of Lakefield, MN, Kelley (Joe) Paxson of Cedar Falls, IA; 7 grandchildren: Andrew and Matthew (Brianne) Gentzkow, Kate (Kelly) Hall, Breanne and Adriane Rentschler, Ben, and Alex Paxson; great-grandchildren Caroline and Noah Gentzkow.

Carole was proceeded in death by her husband Bill, her parents Albert Vancura and Mary (Gombos) Vancura, siblings Gerald (Bernice) Vancura, Geraldine (Bernard) Weise, Mildred Vancura, Joseph (Rosella) Vancura, and Loretta (Maurice) Oehler.
