Darlene Rae Froderman was born on May 12, 1934, in rural Round Lake, Minnesota. She was 1 of 3 children born to the late Carl George and Florence Lydia (Nicola) Erbes. Darlene attended school in Ocheydan, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. On September 9, 1951, Darlene was united in marriage to Eldred (Sonny) Froderman at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Round Lake. After marriage, they lived near Bigelow, then moved to Reading and started farming in 1956. They then moved to Ocheydan in 1959, to Harris in 1964, to Sioux Valley in 1969, to Round Lake in 1978 and to Lakefield in 1987. In April 2016 they entered the Valley View assisted living in Lakefield together until Sonny’s passing in September 2016. Darlene was later transferred to the Colonial Manor nursing home in September 2020, where she passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 13 days.
Darlene worked at Campbell Soup, Ellseth Eggs and Sather’s. Darlene and Sonny were blessed with 7 children Sandy, Connie, Ruth, Marilyn, Terry, Tami, and Jerry.
Darlene was an excellent baker and cook. She always had a cake or bars sitting on the counter, or a meal in the crockpot, ready for when anyone would stop by. They had a large garden and did a lot of canning also. Christmas was Darlene’s favorite holiday. She always had the house decorated and baked everyone’s favorite goodies and pies. Darlene and Sonny spent many hours on the dance floor, square dancing, and the polka at the Sioux Valley Log Cabin. In the Summer, they spent a lot of time camping, sitting around the campfires, fishing for bullheads, and enjoying the company. Darlene enjoyed playing cards and games with family. She cherished each and every moment that she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Darlene’s legacy will be carried out through generations and generations. Her kindness and loving heart will be greatly missed by her family and all that were blessed to know her.
Darlene is survived by her daughters: Sandy (Darold) Petersen of Windom, MN, Connie Steffen of Mankato, MN, Ruth (Rick) Florke of Spencer, IA, Marilyn (Dan) Luehrs of Intercession City, FL, and Tami (Brian) Bale of Lakefield, MN; sons: Terry (Jenny) Froderman of Jefferson City, MO, and Jerry (Nita) Froderman of North Mankato, MN; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; sister Joyce Dittman, along with many other relatives.
