David Robert Henning was one of twelve children born to Feodor and Lola (Vander Hamm) Henning on September 21, 1944, in Worthington, MN. He grew up on the family farm near St Paul’s Lutheran Church and spent much of his time helping on the farm, in the family store, and going to school. He attended elementary school in Rost Township and graduated from Lakefield High School with the class of 1962. Dave was also a member of the National Guard.

Dave was united in marriage with the love of his life, Ines Schmidt on July 26, 1963, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Dave and Ines enjoyed 58 years and 7 months together on various adventures. They were blessed with three sons, Mark, Luke, and Matthew.

Dave’s lifelong passion was farming. His favorite time of year was the fall. He loved to see how the season of hard work and risk came to fruition at the end of the season. He loved cruising around in his vehicle inspecting fields and catching up on local news. Dave loved his hometown of Lakefield and gave back by being on various councils throughout the years.

While most of his time was spent farming, he always made time for his kids and his grandkids. It did not matter what they were doing, or what was going on - he loved to watch and cheer them on. It would take alot for him to miss an important event for his grandkids. He adored his grandkids. He was the best grandpa any child could ever hope for. Countless hours of just being there when it mattered.

Dave loved to ride his Harley, travel to Palm Springs with Ines, or go fishing on Leech Lake or the Missouri River. Any chance he had would find him going toward a fishing hole with friends, and if they were lucky, his sons. Many life lessons and wisdom were passed on in the pursuit of walleye or perch. The deck was often the backdrop for shared stories, laughter, and commentary on the unsuspecting golf pros going through.

Dave was called to his eternal home on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Keeping his memory close in heart are his wife, Ines of Sherburn, MN; children: Mark (Cathy) of Peoria, AZ, Luke (Lori) of Lakefield, MN, and Matthew (Robin) of Lakefield, MN; seven grandchildren: Tyler Burton, Ashley (Billy) Henning, Brittany (Ryan) Livermont, Cameron (Mackenzie) Henning, Jolie Rossiter, Ayla Henning, and David Henning; great grandchildren: Eden, Fisher, Graham, Henlee, Iverson, Theo, and baby-on-the-way; his eleven siblings Helen, Mary (Sig) Lillegard, Ruth (Calvin Rehborg), Paul (Joyce), Edward (Twila), Eleanor, William (Carol), Albert (Leann), Jane (Larry) Nolte, Alice (Steve) White, and Victor and many nieces and nephews. Family was the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law Sig Lillegard, niece Catina, infant daughter, and an infant great granddaughter.

Blessed be the memory of David Robert Henning. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Immanuel Lutheran School, Rost Cemetery Fund, or Kindred Hospice.
