Dean Wieskus, age 76, of Petersburg, Minnesota, entered into rest on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at his residence. Visitation will be held at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson, on Friday, October 9, 2020 from 4-7 p.m. a private family funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Union State Line Church, with Pastor Nancy Isaacson officiating. Individual’s wishing to attend the service are able to sit in the parking lot in their vehicle and listen to the service on 90.1 f.m. transmitter radio, as Pastor Nancy will be live broadcasting.
Burial with full Military Rites by the Jackson American Legion and VFW Posts #130, will be held immediately following the service at the Union State Line Cemetery.
Dean Elwood Wieskus, son of John and Gladys (Stanwick) Wieskus, was born on Friday, February 4, 1944 in Estherville, Iowa. He was one of three children in the family. As a child he attended Petersburg School until sixth grade and then graduated from Jackson High School in 1962. He attended college at Jackson Vocational and Technical College for auto body and auto mechanics. Dean proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years, serving in the Vietnam War in the infantry unit. Dean was wounded in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1967. Dean was a lifelong resident of Petersburg, Minnesota. He married the love of his life, Barb Ruskell on December 27, 1968 at the Methodist Church in Jackson, Minnesota. They were blessed with two daughters: Susan, and Sara. He was a member of Union State Line Church where he cared for the grounds. Dean was an active member and served as Commander of the Jackson VFW and in the honor guard at the American Legion. Dean worked as a mail carrier in Jackson, retiring in 2009. After retirement Dean helped out his family with farming. Dean was a longtime official and flagman at the Jackson VFW Speedway. In later years he also did track prep at the speedway. He was inducted into the Jackson Speedway Hall of Fame in 2005. Dean died unexpectedly on Sunday October 4, 2020 at his residence in Petersburg at the age of 76 years and 8 months.
Dean was a devoted family man. He was the caretaker of his family, and very proud of his two daughter's and grandchildren’s accomplishments. Dean made sure to attend all of his grandkid’s activities. He had fun keeping up with the family’s activities on Spacebook (FaceBook). Dean was a hardworking man, always willing to help someone in need out. He enjoyed working in his shop and was always fixing something. He loved operating his heavy machinery, especially his grader. Dean was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing at Jackson and Loon Lake golf clubs. Although Dean was more on the quiet side, he always knew how to lift up someone’s spirit and put a smile on their face. Dean has left behind a lifetime of memories for his family and friends to cherish.
Dean is survived by his daughters: Susan (Gabby) Lusk of Jackson, Minnesota, and Sara (Troy) Nothdurft of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren: Derrik (Autumn) Lusk, Cole Lusk, Allison Nothdurft, and Blair Nothdurft; great-grandchild Karter Lusk; brother Joe (Elaine) Wieskus of Jackson; sister Marie (John) Seeman of Marshall; sister in-law Katherine Wempe, along with nieces and nephews.
Dean is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Barb and his parents, John and Gladys.
