Delmar Lee Milbrath

Delmar Milbrath, age 75, of Lakefield, Minnesota passed away at his residence, with his children by his side on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Visitation will take place on Monday, May 3, 2021 from 2-5 p.m. at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Lakefield. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Rost Cemetery.

Delmar Lee Milbrath, son of Alex and Ruby (Hohenstein) Milbrath, was born on Sunday, October 28, 1945 in Rost Township, Jackson County Minnesota. At the age of 17, Delmar enrolled in Barber college in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Upon completion of the program, he worked his first Barber job in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Delmar then moved to Canby, Minnesota. Delmar met the love of his life Betty at a dance, and were united in marriage on August 22, 1970 in Canby, Minnesota. They were blessed with 5 children Lois, Kathy, Jolene, Cindy, and David. Delmar and Betty lived in Canby for a short time, before moving to Lakefield, Minnesota. Delmar worked and owned his own barber shop in Lakefield. Throughout the years, he also barbered in the surrounding communities including Heron Lake, Brewster, Jackson and Sherburn. Delmar passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the age of 75 years and 6 months.

Delmar was a very personable man. He enjoyed all of the conversations and story telling with all of his clients at the barber shop. Delmar also liked sharing those stories with his family. He and Betty enjoyed jumping on the motorcycle and seeing where the open road would take them. They took many trips out West.  Delmar loved horses. During his earlier years, he roped calves and trained horses. He shared his love of animals with his children as they grew up.  Delmar looked forward to going up north to his daughter Jolene’s hobby farm, where they owned horses together. Delmar loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He has left a lifetime of memories for his family to cherish.

Delmar is survived by his children: Lois (Alan Jr.) Beeler, Kathy (Gregg) Wieskus, Jolene (Marvin) Colburn, Cindy (Jason) Kuhnau, and David (Samantha) Milbrath; eight grandchildren: Jason, Taylor, Shelby, Benjamin, Hannah, Nathan, Lauren and Kollin; brother Mel (Anita) Milbrath; sister Maryls Kilen; sisters-in-law Carol (Wayne) Nau, Jane Powers, June (Steve) Ray, Beverly Watje, and Patricia Powers; brothers-in-law Jack (Joni) Powers, Chuck Powers, Vincent (Joy) Powers, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
