Dennis Hampel, age 79, of Jackson, Minnesota, passed away with family by his side, on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Jackson, with Pastor Russ Steele officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Military Honors performed by the Jackson American Legion Post #130 will take place outside the church following the Memorial Service.
A gathering of family and friends, in honor of Dennis will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Jackson American Legion on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.
Burial will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Dennis Leroy Hampel, son of Alfred and Lydia (Huse) Hampel, was born on Sunday, May 23, 1943, on a farm north of Alpha, Enterprise Township, Minnesota. He attended country school in District 93 and graduated from Jackson High School in 1961. Upon high school graduation Dennis enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, honorably serving his country from 1961-1965. Dennis was united in marriage to Debra Sue Swensrud on November 20, 1966, in Sherburn, Minnesota. They were blessed with four children: Chad, Brigham, Lainie, and Autumn. Dennis began his career at Sperry-Univac before going to work at the Southwest Minnesota Vocational School. Dennis initially was the electrical instructor, then transitioned into the school administration office. In 2017, Dennis retired as Campus Dean of Minnesota West. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jackson, where he taught Sunday school for many years. Dennis also served as Jackson American Legion Commander. On Sunday, August 14, 2022, Dennis was joined with his Lord and Savior at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, at the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 21 days.
Dennis was a phenomenal supporter of his children and their various sports. He made sure to attend all of their football, basketball, track, and cross-country events. Dennis left a lifetime of wonderful memories for his family, and friends to cherish.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 55 years Deb; sons Chad (Connie) Hampel and Brigham (Jada) Hampel; daughters Lainie (Dennis) Byerly and Autumn (Jeffrey) Worster; 16 grandchildren: Sean (Francesca) Landsteiner, Luke (Patty) Borom, Andrew Borom, Tyson (Carolyn) Borom, Billy (Nicole Kolbe) Hampel, Nick Hampel, Cameron (Bianca) Voshage, Leif Soholt, Katie Worster, Christian Vosage-Hampel, Skye Byerly, Jeffrey Worster Jr., Collin Vosage-Hampel, Dennis Byerly III, Dillon Worster, Cyenna Vosage-Hampel; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters Gloria (Harold) Stammer and Carolyn Hampel; aunt Lois Lee, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Lydia, sister Darlene Jenkins, granddaughter Michaela Byerly, grandson Cole Hampel, nephew Kevin Jenkins, and niece Patricia Baloun.
