Dorothy Kathleen Benda

Dorothy K. Benda, age 89, formerly of Jackson, Minnesota, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn. A Private family Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake, with Father Pratap Reddy Salibindla officiating. Burial will take place following Mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Dorothy Kathleen Benda, daughter of Herman and Matilda (Schaffer) Volk, was born on Thursday, February 11, 1932, in Heron Lake, Minnesota. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Faith at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. She attended and graduated from Heron Lake High School in 1950. Right after high school, Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper at the Sontag Lumber Company in Heron Lake. On April 16, 1952, Dorothy was united in marriage to William Benda at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.   They were blessed with 5 children Diane, Paula, John, Jeffrey, and Marc. While the children were growing up, Dorothy was a devoted stay at home mother. In 1973, she started a career outside the home working at Sears, Jackson County Courthouse, and at the front desk at Best Western in Jackson.  Dorothy was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson.  In 2017, she moved to Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn. Dorothy joined her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 27 days.

Dorothy was quite an outgoing lady. She enjoyed bowling, any and all crafts, playing Bridge and 500. She was a great socializer and looked forward to her Ladies Club weekly gatherings. Dorothy especially enjoyed having coffee with her friends. She was an avid reader and movie goer. Dorothy enjoyed going to garage sales with her “Rummage Runabouts” group. Dorothy especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She has left a lifetime of memories for all to cherish.

Dorothy is survived by her children Diane Benda, Paula (Denny) Earhart, John (Pam) Benda, Jeffrey (Karen) Benda and Marc (Susette Yeager); 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; brother Donald (Maurita) Volk; 3 nieces, and 2 nephews.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Herman and Matilda Volk, William Benda, and many of her good friends.
