Eline Heazlett

Mavis Eline Heazlett, age 97, of Lakefield, Minnesota passed away with her family by her side, on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Visitation will be held  at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Andrew Schensted officiating. Burial will take place following the funeral service at Lakefield Memorial Cemetery.

Mavis Eline (Sparrow) Heazlett, was born on May 17, 1924, to Albert and Enah (Anderson) Sparrow, on a farm near Portland, North Dakota. Eline was baptized on October 19, 1924, at the Bang Lutheran Church. She was confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Finley, North Dakota on May 28, 1939. She graduated from high school in Portland, North Dakota, and from Mayville College in 1946.  

Eline taught school for several years in St. Thomas, Grafton, and Cando, North Dakota, along with one year on the Indian Reservation at Naytahwaush, Minnesota.

On June 15, 1948, Eline was united in marriage to Warren Heazlett at the Bruflat Church in Portland. They lived in numerous places throughout North Dakota until 1964, when they moved to Lakefield, Minnesota. Eline and Warren purchased and ran the Coast-to-Coast store in Lakefield, until retiring in 1983. They remained in Lakefield.  

Eline was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, where she taught Sunday school and was the President of Aid. Eline was also quite active in the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary’s, where she held many offices and was the 2nd District Secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Eline passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 97 years, 7 months, and 9 days.

Eline is survived by her children: Harold (Chris) Heazlett, Eva (Phil) Spence, Kent (Carol) Heazlett, and Gayle Heazlett; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; along with numerous other family and friends.

Eline is preceded in death by her husband Warren, her parents Albert and Enah; sisters Delora, Alvia, Maxine, MaryAnn, Ruth and her brothers William and Edward, and a granddaughter Yana Baas.
