Eugene Herbert Rossow, son of Herbert and Erna (Kraft) Rossow, was born on May 17, 1935, in Lakefield, Minnesota. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lakefield and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Lakefield. Gene attended St. Peter Parochial school thru the 8th grade and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1953. Gene was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Wulf on June 22, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. This union was blessed with three children Nadine, Daniel and Kevin. Gene and Shirley made their home on the Rossow farm until 1990, when they moved into their current home in Lakefield. Gene was a member of St. Peter Lutheran church, where he proudly held many offices. Gene and Shirley owned and ran the Hi-Lo Club in Lakefield from 1972-1975 and 1984-1989. Throughout the many tribulations that Gene experienced during his lifetime, his Faith in the Lord was strong. On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Gene joined his Lord and Savior at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 3 days.
In his younger years he farmed with his “Pa” and brothers. He enjoyed many years in saddle club and fox hunting with his greyhounds. He had a passion for hunting and fishing and shared the love of the sport with his family. He was a conservationist, planting many trees on his property, and supported NHLGPA, Ducks Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. Gene, together with Shirley, enjoyed music. They loved to dance the night away. He was a true farmer and always loved caring for his yard and large garden, where he raised an abundance of fruits and vegetables. Even after he moved to town, he continued to help with the home farm operation. Gene was a good cook. Along with his traditional Christmas Eve oyster stew, his family enjoyed summer cookouts on his deck of fried fish and his fresh baked fruit crisps. Gene always had a humorous story or joke to tell and his laugh was contagious. The grandchildren loved listening to him speak to them in German. Gene’s faith was of high importance to him. He took his family faithfully to church and often quoted Bible verses. In his later years he enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, the Vikings, and RFD TV.
Gene’s family brought much love, comfort and pride to him. He has left behind a lifetime of memories for them to cherish.
Gene is survived by his wife of 63 years Shirley; daughter Nadine (Syd) Malchow, their daughters and grandchildren, Amanda (Derek) Frodermann, Genevieve and Ian; Gina (Scott) Myers, Joshua, Julia and Gentry; son Dan (Becky) Rossow, their children Bonnie (Torey Hunkus) Rossow and Joseph Rossow (Taysha Herman); son Kevin (Stacy) Rossow, their children and grandchildren, Cole (Laura) Rossow, Holly and Blain; Audry (Grant) Hovland, Dorothy, Josiah, and Roscoe; Grace (Kilen) Warmka; sister-in-law Phyllis (Merlyn) Rossow, bothers-in-law Marv (Donna Wachter) Wulf and Jim (Linda) Westensee and many nieces and nephews.
