Gary Eidhammer, age 75, formerly of Heron Lake, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Mission Farms Nursing Home in Plymouth, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Lakefield. Burial with a brief graveside service will take place following the visitation at the Lakeside Cemetery in Heron Lake.
Masks are required to be worn in the Funeral Home.
Gary Louis Eidhammer, son of Clarence Herbert Eidhammer and DeLores Marian (Christoffer) Eidhammer was born on June 6,1945 in Heron Lake, MN at Southwestern Minnesota Hospital. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Heron Lake and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Okabena High School class of 1963. Gary married Josephine Volk and together they had 6 children.
Gary enlisted in the Air Force in 1965. In 1967 Gary received orders for Japan and moved there with his wife and eldest son Kirk. Gary served one tour in Vietnam as a Crew Chief; airplane mechanic and was awarded his crew wings and in 1974. He was also assigned to numerous other bases, including Korea and was honorably discharged with the rank of SSGT. The family lived for a time in Okabena and on the family farm until divorcing. He married Sue Boelter in 2001 and they lived in Windom, MN. Gary was employed with the MN DOT until his retirement in 2006. He won several Snow Plow Rodeo competitions. Gary had a stroke and subsequently divorced. He lived at the Veteran’s Home in Luverne for a few years before being transferred to Mission Hills Nursing Home, Plymouth, MN.
Gary was a Post Commander at the Okabena American Legion Post 608 and a member of the VFW.
Gary passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Mission Farms Nursing Home in Plymouth, Minnesota, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 29 days.
Gary is survived by his children: Kirk (Traci Anderson), Tammy (Lee Wright), Randy, Tanya,
Justin (Mindy Oelke), Ryan (Sheena Getzel), 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, his brother Curtis (Karen Abbott) and sister Connie (Michael Moyer).
Gary is preceded in death by his parents and Sue (Boelter) Eidhammer.
