Gladys Nelson Obituary

Gladys Nelson, age 84, of Milford, Iowa, entered into rest on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.  A private family burial will take place following the service at Riverside Cemetery in Jackson, with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating.

Gladys Mae Nelson, daughter of Earnest and Lillian (Hanson) Johnson, was born on Wednesday, December 18, 1935 on the Gillette Grove family farm in Gillette Grove, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Gillette Grove Public School. Upon graduating from high school, Gladys worked as a switchboard operator at the telephone company in Spencer, Iowa, until she met the love of her life Kenneth Nelson, in Arnold’s Park, Iowa.  On September 24, 1961, they were united in marriage at the Grace Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa. They were blessed with one daughter Holly.  After marriage, they made their home in Jackson, Minnesota running the family business as well as branching out to owning the Flowers Unlimited Floral Shop in Jackson. In the early 1990's, Gladys and Kenneth moved to Camdenton, Missouri on the Lake of the Ozarks and then later moved to Milford, Iowa.

Gladys was baptized and confirmed at Gillette Grove Methodist Church in Gillette Grove, Iowa. She loved being involved in the church, serving as the Sunday School Superintendent, organizing the summer bible school programs, and also a member of the church choir and leading the Christmas program. Gladys was also a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, and the Kiwanis.

Gladys is survived by her daughter Holly (Ryan) Jensen of Superior, Iowa, her three grandchildren Shelby (Travis), Reed (Fallon), and Britney, and her 3 great grandchildren; Brayton, Liam, and Myles.

Gladys is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth, her parent’s Earnest and Lillian, brother Lawrence Johnson, and sister June Johnson.
