Goldie Lillian Pettit, daughter of the late William and Minnie (Guritz) Lucht, was born on Friday, March 15, 1935, on the family farm in Middletown Township, Jackson County Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Salem Lutheran Church. Goldie attended District 55 Country School through the 5th grade and graduated from Jackson High School in 1953. Upon graduation, she worked for Minnesota Egg in Jackson until 1957. On October 6, 1957, Goldie was united in marriage to Bernard Wayne Pettit at Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson. They were blessed with 4 children Linda, Donna, John, and Marlene. The couple moved to Winnebago for a few years, relocated to Spirit Lake, Iowa, before moving to the farm in Lakefield in 1965. Goldie stayed home with the children while they were growing up. When they all left home, she went to work for Sather’s Candy Factory until she was laid off. Goldie then stayed home to care for her husband, son, and granddaughters. After Bernard passed in 2017, Goldie remained living on the farm until 2019, when she moved into Lakefield with her daughter Donna. On June 28, 2022, Goldie became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson, where she passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 27 days.

Goldie was a very hardworking, devoted wife, mother, caregiver, and grandmother. She made sure that her family was always taken care of. Goldie had a passion for sewing including crocheting, needle point, and cross stich. She made barbie doll clothes for her children’s barbies, and cross-stiching something special for each one of her family members. She enjoyed playing cards, from a quiet game of solitaire to a slight competitive game of rummy, crazy 8, or kings’ corner. Goldie was always busy out on the farm helping Bernard out and taking care of her huge garden. In the fall, she would spend hours canning her gardens harvest. She loved listening to polka music, especially Molly B. Above all things, Goldie loved spending time with her family, cherishing each and every moment. Goldie will be greatly missed by her family, and all those whose hearts she touched.

Goldie is survived by her children Linda Pearson of Prescott, Wisconsin, Donna Pettit of Lakefield, Minnesota, John Pettit of Windom, Minnesota and Marlene Martens of Lakefield, Minnesota; grandchildren Angela (Tate) Hanson, Lillian Martens, and Kristina (Drew) Brockman; great-grandchildren Henry and Tessa Hanson, Levi Steffanson, Carson Raveling, Aiyana, and George Brockman; along with many other relatives.

Goldie is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Bernard; parents William and Minnie; brothers Clarence, Albert, Julius, Irvin, Laverne, and Marvin; sons-in-law David Pearson and Tom Martens; and grandson William “Bill” Martens.
