Helen Irene Gunst, daughter of Agil and Helga (Nesterud) Kilen, was born on Sunday, May 5, 1946, in Windom, Minnesota. Helen was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, where she has been a lifelong member. She attended and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1964. Upon high school graduation Helen attended college for a brief time before moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Helen owned and operated a professional housekeeping business most of her life. Helen met the love of her life William Gunst, and was united in marriage in 1971, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They later moved to Virginia to be closer to William’s family. In 1991, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and later moved to Lakefield in 2002. In 2012, William passed away and Helen remained living with her sister Sheila for a few months, before moving into the Doman Rose Assisted Living, until they closed in 2020. Helen then moved into the Lakeview Assisted Living, and recently the Colonial Manor Nursing Home, where she entered into eternal rest, on Friday, October 29, 2021, at the age of 75 years, 5 months, and 24 days.

Helen was a very classy and meticulous lady. She never left the house without being put together, and there was never a speck of dust or anything out of place. While living in Doman Rose she enjoyed working with the kitchen staff to make sure that the tables were always decorated nicely for the other residents. She was always willing to clean or help organize things. Helen was an excellent cook, and entertainer. She loved putting together decorations and a spread for everyone to enjoy. She enjoyed traveling, whether it was packing her daughters dance team in the vehicle for travel, or random trips that her and William would take together. Helen spent a lot of time reading books of all genres. Most of all Helen loved spending time with her family. She has left a lifetime of memories for her family and friends to cherish.

Helen is survived by her daughter Seresa Irene Gunst of Michigan; sisters Cynthia (Hennan) Rost of Lakefield, Minnesota, Sheila Sigler of Lakefield, Minnesota and Mary (Michael) Grandon of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brother John (Mary) Kilen of Cleveland, Tennessee; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband William, parents Agil and Helga, sisters Kristene Kilen Baumgard, Barbara Kilen Rausenberger, and Susan Kilen Werner; and brother James Kilen.

Blessed be the memory of Helen Irene Gunst.
