Ida Daberkow, age 103, of Lakefield, entered into rest on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the Colonial Manor Nursing in Lakefield, Minnesota. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
Ida Jennie Daberkow, daughter of John and Katherine (Kleinsasser) Wipf, was born on Monday, March 3, 1917, in Doland, South Dakota. Ida attended Frankfort Country School through the 8th grade. Ida came to Lakefield at a young age with her brother Earnest. She first worked as a housemaid for a family in rural Lakefield, then went to work at the Wendt café in town. Ida met the love of her life, Paul while working at the café. Paul and Ida were united in marriage on September 29, 1935 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield. They were blessed with 4 children Clara, Clyde, Jerry and Betty. Together they made their home on a farm northwest of Lakefield, which remains in the family Ida was a farm wife, taking care of Paul, the children, and helping with the farm chores. Ida was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she served on the Ladies Aide Council. In 1979, Paul and Ida moved from the farm place into town. She volunteered and worked as a cook at Colonial Manor and helped with Meals on Wheels. After Paul’s passing in 1992, Ida remained living in their home, until 2013 when she moved into Valley View Assisted Living. In May of 2017, Ida became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home, where she passed away, on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the age of 103 years, 9 months and 20 days.
Ida was an extremely energetic, sociable and happy woman. She enjoyed her time playing cards with her friends, especially 500 with her card club. Ida looked forward to visiting with her friends at coffee club, or her and Paul just out chatting with their friends. In the spring and summer months Ida could be found working in her vegetable and flowers gardens, and in the fall, she was quite busy canning all the produce from her garden. Ida liked being in the outdoors, fishing with her friends and her husband Paul. Ida loved spending time her family and cherished all the holidays of having the whole family together. Ida has left behind a lifetime of memories for her family, friends, and everyone that was blessed to know her, to cherish.
Ida is survived by her children Clara Mae Johnson of Windom, Clyde (Juanita) Daberkow of Lakefield, Jerry (Stephanie) Daberkow of Lakefield, and Betty Hughes of Slayton; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Ruth.
Ida is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Paul, her parent John and Katherine, brothers Albert, Clarence, Arthur, Warren and Ernie, sister Bertha, grandsons Gerald, Garvin and Eugene, and a great grandson Nickolas Daberkow.
