Jean Murphy

Jean Lucille Murphy (Scholander) age 80, of Sherburn, formerly of Fairmont, Minnesota,  finished her earthly journey in the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at the Fairmont Mayo Health Center.

Jean Lucille Murphy, daughter of Oscar and Elizabeth (Gawinski) Scholander, was born on March 27, 1942, at Fairmont Community Hospital. Her early education was at the county school, District 114 and graduating from Fairmont High School in 1960. Jean’s years of employment began at Northwestern Bell as a Line Operator, continuing on at Central Telephone Company. From there she worked at Stokely’s as a Grower’s Accountant.  Moving to Pierre, South Dakota, she was employed by GSDA the Greater South Dakota Association as executive assistant. Moving from Pierre to Jackson, MN, Jean worked for SCCAC, Southern Community Action Counsel as an Administrative Assistant for the Headstart Program, leading to a job at WESCAP. An opening at HUD as Executive Director led Jean to holding this position for 25 years, managing 74 units for low-income, independent residents.

Jean Lucille Murphy finished her earthly journey in the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the Mayo Fairmont Heath Center at the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 24 days.

Jean’s hobbies included documenting the family tree, playing cards, crocheting, reading, and gardening. Her love for her family and spending time together was her greatest joy.  Jean was a devout Christian and found her greatest peace in time spent in prayer and praise with the Lord.

Much to her family’s dismay, she was an avid Packer’s fan and enjoyed a good banter after a Vikings-Packers game, especially if the Vikings lost.

Jean is lovingly remembered for her unshakable faith, her devotion to her family and the joy of spending time with those she loved.  She was a quick wit, a Queen of the “To-Do List”, loved a good laugh and a round of cards, especially “Crazy 8” and “King in The Corner”.

She is survived by her children, Michael Murphy Jr. (Jill) Rosemount, MN., Julie Williams (Murphy), Rockford, IL and Elizabeth Pribyl (Murphy), Sherburn, MN.

She has 6 grandchildren, Shawn, Leslie, Abigail, Toni, Madeline and Olivia and 4 great-grandchildren, Ophelia, Oscar, Lainie and Skye.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar, and Elizabeth (Gawinski) Scholander, aunts and uncles and cousins.
