Jerome Gruhlke, age 85, of Jackson, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson. A private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, will burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Jackson, with Pastor Steve DeKok officiating.
Jerome John Gruhlke, son of Roy and Mable (Wendelsdorf) Gruhlke, was born on Wednesday, December 18, 1935, on the family farm in Des Moines Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson. Jerome graduated from Jackson High School in 1954. Upon graduation, he worked for a short time at Toro in Windom. Jerome’s career path led him to farming and an electrician. Jerome worked for M&H for 40 plus years. Jerome was united in marriage to Nona Thoreson on April 7, 1957, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson. They were blessed with two sons, Scott and Michael. Jerome and Nona made their home together in Jackson. Jerome remained living in Jackson after Nona passed away in 2004. On March 3, 2020, Jerome became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson. On Thursday, September 9, 2021, Jerome was welcomed into the heavenly gates, at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 21 days.
Jerome was always on the go. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fishing out of his pond in the backyard. He was a member of the flying club in Jackson and loved flying in his planes. Jerome was known for being a little stubborn, quite talkative, and a slight ornery, but he had a heart of gold. He was always willing to help anyone out that needed it. Jerome has left behind a lifetime of memories for his family, friends, and those who were lucky enough to know him.
Jerome is survived by his sons Scott and Michael: grandsons Josh (Nicole) Gruhlke and Kyle (Sonja) Gruhlke; great-grandchildren Chase and Hailee; sister-in-law Lola Gruhlke and Judy Goede, along with numerous other family members.
Jerome is preceded in death by his wife Nona, parents Roy and Mable, brothers Donald and Marlin.
