JoAnn Bartz Obituary

JoAnn Bartz, age 87, of Jackson, Minnesota entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at her residence in Jackson.  Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, with Father Jonathan Fasnacht officiating.

Masks are required to be worn inside the church.

JOANN MARGARET BARTZ was born on April 17, 1933 in Salem, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Clare Wagner.  Her family moved to Minnesota where they farmed in the Red River Valley. JoAnn attended school in Borup and Ada, Minnesota, graduating in 1951 then worked in the courthouse where she met and later united in marriage on June 5, 1954 to Chet Bartz at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ada.  They made their home there until moving to Sioux City, Iowa.  In 1958, they moved to Alpha, Minnesota where Chet worked for Cargill and they raised their children and enjoyed a close group of friends until 1978 when they moved to Perry, Iowa. They returned to Jackson in 1990 to enjoy their retirement. JoAnn was married to Chet for 63 years until his death in 2018.

JoAnn was a devoted member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson. She was also a long-time member of the Jackson Legion Auxiliary Post and was proud to help support their mission, making lifelong friends with other members. She happily volunteered for the Red Cross, coordinating Bloodmobile events and donating gallons of blood herself, over the years.

She and Chet traveled to every state in the country as well as several countries as guests of Cargill. She was also an avid bowler, an appreciated member of teams in both Alpha and Perry. She cheered on the Minnesota Twins her entire life. She passed on January 27, 2001 at the Pines in Jackson where she spent time with old friends and made new ones over the past few years.

JoAnn is survived by her 4 children, Nancy Palm of Maple Grove, Mike (Kate Hepp) Bartz of Mendota Heights, Doug Bartz of Jackson, and Kari (Michael) Jarcho of Minneapolis; 4 grandchildren, Kelsey, Gillian, Simon and Beckett and 2 great-grandchildren, Franklin and Sutton; a sister, Donna Ueland of Ada, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and good friends.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Chet, as well as her parents, brothers Jerry and Gene, and many of Chet's siblings.

Family is planning a service; we understand Covid-19 precautions will have many attending in spirit. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross. Blessed be the memory of JoAnn Bartz.
