Karen Kay McCarty

Karen Kay (Seivert) McCarty, age 71, of Jackson, Minnesota entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Lakes Regional HealthCare, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson, with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, with Father Jonathan Fasnacht officiating. Burial will take place following the funeral mass at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Cemetery in Sanborn, Iowa.

Karen Kay (Seivert) McCarty, daughter of Harold and Caroline (Henning) Seivert, was born on Friday, January 7, 1949 in Sibley, Iowa. She attended and graduated from the St. Joseph Catholic School in Ashton, Iowa. Karen was united in marriage to Jerry McCarty on November 20, 1970 in Ashton, Iowa. After marriage, they raised 8 children. The family lived in several towns in Iowa and Minnesota before making their forever home in Jackson in 1993. 

Karen worked as a CNA and later she and Jerry worked together as insurance agents in Jackson and Worthington. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson. Karen spent much of her life taking care of her family and raising the children. Karen worked at Accent and then after Jerry’s passing worked at Rosenboom in Spirit Lake until her retirement in 2018. Karen was surrounded by her children and loved ones when she entered into eternal rest at Lakes Regional Healthcare, in Spirit Lake, Iowa on Thursday, November 4, 2020 at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Karen enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was an avid watcher of the Food Network and CSI on television. She enjoyed all kinds of arts and crafts and doing crossword puzzles, reading, and writing her own murder mysteries. Karen was a very kind loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Karen has left a lifetime of memories for her family to cherish. 

Karen is survived by her daughters Nancy (Todd) Hanson of Norwalk, Iowa, Brenda Wenzel of Jackson, Minnesota, Sara (Mike) Mix of Jackson, Minnesota, and Jill (John) Cihak of Lakefield, Minnesota; sons John (Kristina) McCarty of Cambridge, Minnesota, Matthew (Chelsea) McCarty of Norwalk, Iowa, Patrick (Andrea) McCarty of Woodberry, Minnesota and Phillip McCarty of Elko New Market, Minnesota; eighteen grandchildren; brothers Lee Seivert, Larry Seivert and Kevin Seivert;  and sister Cindy Walters.

Karen is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Jerry, her parent’s Harold and Caroline, sister Dawn, and grandchild Joseph.
