LaVon Margaret (Hecker) Seleen – Age 97 passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021 at the Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake. Born to Emil and Mabel Hecker on December 2, 1923 in Heron Lake, Minnesota. She attended country school and then Graduated High School – May 1941 from Heron Lake High School.  LaVon attended several quarters at the St. Paul Campus Farm School studying accounting.  Following school, she worked in Heron Lake, Corvalis, OR, and Worthington for a short time. For 32 years she was employed at the ASCS office in Lakefield getting to know the farmers in the county as she processed loans and other duties.  She married Lloyd Seleen in the Heron Lake Church on November 12, 1946.  In their 47 years of married life, they lived in Heron Lake and Truman before settling in Lakefield in 1950.  They raised their 2 children, Mike and Patt on the farm before buying a house and moving into town in 1960.  LaVon was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, serving on many committees and helping out with church activities.  She volunteered at the Senior Dining and the local Food Shelf.  She delivered Meals on Wheels to Lakefield residents. She was a member of the Heron Lake Happy Hour Club (women friends) and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.  LaVon’s life was one of giving.  She was always willing to lend a hand and will be remembered for her graciousness and kindness.  She was a “grand” lady.

LaVon loved the time she spent with her family and her friends.  There were always holiday gatherings with both the Hecker and Seleen families, with aunts, uncles, and cousins at someone’s home.  She loved to walk, and she was a fast walker! Maybe this came from her walking to work and home where there was always something for her to do.  She enjoyed her kids’ school, church, and other activities.  She loved having her granddaughter spend time with her in the summer.  LaVon loved getting together with her friends, eating, playing cards, and laughing late into the nights. She loved to travel, Lloyd and LaVon traveled many times to reunite with Lloyd’s Army Air Corp buddies, family gatherings, and picnics. After Lloyds death LaVon traveled with Patt to Germany and Alaska which were highlights in her life.

LaVon is survived by her son, Mike (Laura) Seleen of Ottertail, MN daughter Patt (Jeff Johnson) Seleen of W. St. Paul, MN, 3 grandchildren Amber, James, and Brandon, 10 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.  There are many nieces, nephews and their families who will miss Aunt LaVon.

LaVon was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd (died in 1993), her parents and 3 brothers Willis, Donald, and baby brother Paul and numerous friends.

A special Thank-you to the staff at Doman Rose in Lakefield and Lakeview in Heron Lake for the care they gave LaVon.  In lieu of flowers, please give to a church or charity in her name.

Dear Lord,

You are my hope, my strength, you are my comfort, and my faithful help every day.
