Leon Frederick Voss son of Rudolph and Hilda (Brehmer) Voss was born on Friday, February 24, 1928, in Sioux Valley Township, Jackson County Minnesota. He was baptized on March 15, 1940, at the First Methodist Church in Lakefield. Leon attended and graduated from Sioux Valley School in 1948. He enjoyed riding his 1949 Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also loved to dance. Leon met the love of his life, Violet Louise Lopau at a ballroom dance in Worthington. They were united in marriage on August 25, 1950, in Sibley, Iowa. Leon and Violet raised their family while working and living the farm life. They were blessed with 5 children Diane, Linda, Steve, Sherri, and Todd.
Leon was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Lakefield. He was active in the community serving on the Lion’s Club, Elevator Board, Pork Producers, Corn and Soybean Growers and the Cattleman’s Association. Leon and Violet loved to travel. They took many road trips and later bought a motorhome to travel and spend the winters in Mission, Texas. Some of their favorite travel places were Mexico, Hawaii, Russia and Alaska. He also loved to go on many fishing trips with friends, his kids, or grandkids, whoever he could get to help reel in that trophy fish. Leon had a talent when it came to mechanics. He was good at fixing and designing. One of his inventions was a skid loader that he designed to fit through barn doors and turn on a dime. He designed and patented a push-off bucket for the skid loader. He was happy to use his invention to help clean out any of the neighbor’s barns. Leon loved spending time with his family and friends. He always had a good laugh and a hug for all. Leon will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Leon is survived by his wife, Violet; children Diane (Timothy) Torrel of Virginia, MN; Linda (Bradley) Mohns of Jackson, MN; Steven (Patricia) Voss of Lakefield, MN; Sherri (Peter) Hodnefield of Jackson, MN and Todd Voss of Garner Iowa along with 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Virgil Voss and Vernon Voss, sisters Vernetta Cranston and Beverly Schroepfer and grandsons Cassidy Voss and Victor Torrel.
