Lois Poelaert, 92, of Lakefield entered into rest on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson. Gathering of friends and family will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Lakefield from 3-5 p.m. A private family burial will take place at 5:30 at the Lakefield City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are preferred.
Lois Arlene Minnie Poelaert, the daughter of Christ and Minnie (Lang) Haack, was born in
Worthington, Minnesota on Thursday, October 20, 1927. Lois was baptized on September 24, 1928 at the First Evangelical Church in Pomeray, Iowa. She received her diploma from Jackson County Schools. On April 15, 1947, Lois was united in marriage to James Poelaert at the Jackson County Courthouse. After marriage they resided in Hunter Township, before moving into Lakefield. Lois worked various jobs including Berkley, Ellseth Egg, and Sperry Univac. Lois entered the Jackson Good Samaritan Society in Fall 2019, where she passed away with her children by her side on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 2 days.
Lois was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield. She was an avid bowler. Lois loved to embroider and was well known for her embroidered dish towels. Lois enjoyed baking and was famous for her home-made bread. Her most memorable vacation was in New York, when she got to meet her favorite singer Willie Nelson in person. Lois enjoyed going out dancing. Lois was a longtime member of the Lois Club, and was renowned for her Tom and Jerry’s at the Lakefield VFW Customer Appreciation Night. Lois has left behind a lifetime of memories for her family to cherish.
Lois is survived by her children Marilyn (Mike) Chepa, LaDonna (Owen) Reiter, Dennis (Kathy) Poelaert, Roxanne (Craig) Ewing, Gail (David) Zishka, Heidi (Kevin) Lev; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchildren.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband James, her parents Christ and Minnie, her brother Melvin, twin brother Lowell, and sister Reona.
