Lyden Orris (Ole) Olson was born on May 15, 1937, the son of Louis and Ovedia (Lindstrom) Olson in Detroit Lakes, MN. Lyden attended country school until the 8th grade when he went to Lake Park Public School, graduating in 1955. He joined the US Navy in 1957 and was stationed in Port Hueneme and also served on Guam and Okinawa, receiving an honorable discharge in 1960. On July 6, 1957, Lyden was united in marriage to Patricia Marshall. They resided in Moorhead for a few years, then on a farm in Lake Park before moving to Okabena in 1970. Lyden became a USDA Meat Inspector in 1970, retiring in 1995.
Ole and Pat spent 15 winters being Snowbirds in Apache Junction, AZ. They also camped at the lake for a couple months every summer where Ole truly enjoyed fishing and most of the day you would find him sitting in his boat, enjoying the day even if the fish weren't cooperating. He also enjoyed deer hunting, carpentry, making many things passed onto the grandchildren, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. He always kept his wit about him, throwing out cute jabs here and there, even when the Parkinson’s took away some of his communications skills. The grandkids always said, Grandpa was a man of few words but when he spoke, we listened.
Ole is survived by his wife, Pat of 65 years, 5 children: David (Monica) of South Carolina, Steven (Carol) of Washington State, Kevin (Carla) of Nebraska, Barb (Bruce) Pederson of St. Cloud, Lynn (Mark) Stier of Willmar; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, LaVay (Ed) Stover of South Carolina, Sandy Faus of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Ovedia, sister Marlys Nelson, brothers Orvis and Arlo, grandson Connor, brother-in-law Arvid Nelson, and sister-in-law June Olson.
Blessed be the memory of Lyden Orris (Ole) Olson.
