Myrna Schaffer, age 80, of Heron Lake, Minnesota, passed away, on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Windom Area Health. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake, with a visitation one hour prior to Mass. Father Pratap Reddy Salibindla will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Myrna Gene Schaffer, daughter of John and Vivian (Cordes) Van Dam, was born on December 10, 1942, in Jackson, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from Okabena High School in 1960. Upon graduation, Myrna attended Worthington Junior College and obtained her secretarial certification. She moved to the cities and worked as a secretary for a few years, until moving to Heron Lake. On July 10, 1965, Myrna was united in marriage to Clayton Paul Schaffer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. Together they were blessed with 2 daughters Lori and Peggy. Myrna stayed home with the girls, and ran a home daycare, until Peggy started school. She then worked at the Lakeview Nursing Home until her retirement. Myrna remained living in the family home after Clayton’s passing in 2010. Myrna entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the age of 80 years and 8 days.
Myrna enjoyed gardening, canning tomatoes, and her famous dill pickles. In her younger years, she was on the women’s bowling league in Heron Lake. Myrna enjoyed playing cards with her friends at the Heron Lake Community Center. She also liked to put puzzles together and play games on her iPad. Myrna was a big fan of Elvis Presley. Above all things, Myrna looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter, cherishing each and every moment spent with them. Her smile and kind heart will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Myrna is survived by her daughters: Lori (Anthony) DeWall of Heron Lake, and Peggy (Ted) Kovacs of Sartell; grandchildren Jordan, Ryan, Colton, and Hailey; great granddaughter Addison; sister Pamela Van Dam; brother David Van Dam, along with many close friends.
Myrna is preceded in death by her husband Clayton, parents John and Vivian, brother Gerald, and an infant brother Rodney.
