Myrtle Gloria (Nelson) Handevidt, daughter of Martin and Emma (Boehm) Nelson, was born on Friday, December 25, 1925, in Enterprise Township, Jackson County, Minnesota.  She attended Jackson County Country School through the 8th grade.  Myrtle was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson, where she worked on the funeral lunch committee.  On September 27, 1946, Myrtle was united in marriage to her best friend Donald Handevidt at Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson.  After marriage, the couple moved to the family farm and were blessed with two children, Ron and Colleen.  Myrtle worked at J. C. Penney, Fairway Foods, and Stan’s Drive Inn.  In retirement she was always a familiar face working at the Jackson Food Shelf.   Myrtle became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in 2018, where she passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 20 days.

Myrt loved spending time with her husband Don.  Don and Myrt spent the first seven years of Don's retirement traveling, driving from coast to coast, California to Florida, spending winters down in Florida. They enjoyed dancing and playing bingo together.   Myrt loved to cross stitch and would spend many hours in her sewing room cross stitching while watching the Twins and Cubs baseball games.  She and Don also had their basement set up so they could sew quilts.  They made hundreds and hundreds of quilts and donated them to World Relief and others in need.  Myrt was known for always wearing her nice embroidered sweatshirts.   Myrt was a very good cook and was known for her sweet rolls, homemade chili, potato salad, and cherry dessert.  She never used a recipe.  She knew exactly what ingredients she needed and how much to use to make the meal taste just right.  If you visited her house you always knew you were going to get something delicious to eat.  She loved spending the holidays with her family, and cooking up meals that would fill the house with magnificent aromas.  She also enjoyed playing cards with her 500 club.  She has left a lifetime of memories for her family and friends to cherish.

Myrtle is survived by her children Ron Handevidt of Mesquite, Nevada, and Colleen (Jeff) Loftsgaarden of Lakeville, Minnesota; 2 grandchildren Jaclyn (Glen) Rebman and Ryan (Jason) Loftsgaarden; 2 great-grandchildren, Tait and Linnea; sisters Emmy Simmering and Doris Kimmel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Donald, parent’s Martin, and Emma; siblings Jeanette Tungland, Gilmore Nelson, and Vernon “Bud” Nelson.
