Norma Joan Liepold, daughter of John and Leila (Powers) Mixner, was born in Heron Lake, Minnesota on Friday, May 7, 1937. Norma was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Faith at Sacred Heart Catholic church. The same church that her Father and Grandfather were founding members, helping build the church that was dedicated in 1921.  She attended and graduated from Heron Lake schools. Norma met her best friend and love of her life, Lawrence Liepold at the roller rink in Dundee.  Lawrence and Norma were united in marriage on June 28, 1956, also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. Blessed with 6 children, Norma was a busy stay at home Mom. Once the children were grown, she worked in food service at the nursing home in Fairmont which she enjoyed. Lawrence and Norma lived in Fairmont over 50 years before relocating to Willmar after retirement to be closer to family. In June of 2022, they moved into Assisted Living at The Glenn of Minnetonka, MN.  On Monday, July 25, 2022, Norma, peacefully took the Lord’s hand and entered her eternal life, at the age of 85.

Norma was a compassionate and selfless wife and Mother. She always made sure that her family was taken care of, and their needs were met before her own. Norma loved to bake and often had fresh goodies waiting for the children after school. Norma was a remarkable sewer, making matching dresses for the three girls, prom dresses, Halloween costumes, Christmas pageant costumes and the list goes on. She enjoyed getting together with her friends, having coffee, and catching up on the weekly words of wisdom from those chats. Above all, Norma loved spending time with her family. She cherished every moment they spent together.  Norma adored all her Grandchildren and always looked forward to spending time with them. Norma will forever be remembered for her smile, her kind heart and her always available ear.

Left to cherish Norma’s memory is her loving husband of 66 years Lawrence; children Gregory Liepold of Deming, New Mexico, Robert Liepold of Dacono, Colorado, Linda (Paul) Meschke of Victoria, Minnesota, Pamela (Larry) Iverson of Wentworth, South Dakota, Brenda (Bill) Knofczynski of Kandiyohi, Minnesota, and Gary (Amy) Liepold of Woodstock, Georgia; grandchildren Lea Mailand, Erin Cowette, Kyle Knofcyznski, Kacy Knofczynski, Gavyn Liepold, Jacob Meschke, Adelyn Liepold and Alayna Liepold; great-grandchildren Claire, Cameron, Grant, Kennedy and Samuel; sister Karyl (Daryl) Henze of Des Moines, Iowa; Leila Liepold of San Antonio Texas; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
