Roy Harnden Obituary

Roy Harnden, age 86, of Jackson, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at the Solid Rock Assembly in Worthington, with Pastor Scott Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service.

Roy LaVerne Harnden, son of Milton Porter and Agnes Matilda (Drager) Harnden, was born on Sunday, April 19, 1936, in Sherburn, Minnesota.  He attended country school in Sherburn. Roy served in the National Guard for 4 years.  Roy met the love of his life while working as a farm hand, which would become his future in-laws.  He then worked for the Texco station and Thumer’s in Jackson until he started his own business as Roy’s Plumbing & Heating and later was employed by the Jackson Public Schools and he retired at the Jackson County Courthouse as a maintenance engineer. On December 21st, 1956, Roy was united in marraige to Marianne Knabe at the Assembly of God Church in Sherburn.  From this union, they were blessed with three children, Elaine, Steven and Cheryl. After marriage they made their home in the city of Jackson and later moved to the family farm. Roy remained living on the farm after Marianne’s passing in 2015. In May 2022, due to declining health, Roy moved to the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, where he passed away, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 26 days.

Roy was a member of the Jackson Assembly of God for many years, where he served as a Deacon and also taught Sunday School. In 2005, Roy and Marianne became members of the Solid Rock Assembly Church in Worthington. He enjoyed having fun with his family and friends. Many days you would find him camping with Marianne, boating, hunting or restoring tractors - that he was so proud of!  He took trips to Sturgis for 21 consecutive years, he toured the BadLands, the Duluth North Shore, Blue Ridge Mountains, and drove the Tail of the Dragon. Roy adored his granddaughter and great grandsons. He cherished each and every moment that he spent with his family and friends.

Roy is survived by his children Elaine (Neil) Rothbarth of Worthington, Steven Harnden (special friend, Sherry Field) and Cheryl Harnden Yadloski all of Jackson; brother Lynn (Connee) Harnden, of Baxter, Iowa; granddaughter Nicole (Mike) Metz, of Rushmore; great grandsons Brycen, Jaxon, and Camden Metz;  along with nieces and nephews and numerous great friends.

Roy is preceded in death by his wife Marianne, parents Milton and Agnes, father-in-law John Knabe and mother-in-law Sylvia Knabe, brother Keith Harnden,  sister-in-laws Beverly Harnden and Sharon Harnden and son-in-law Chuck Yadloski.

Blessed be the memory of Roy LaVerne Harnden.
