Scott Alan Olson was born in Watertown, South Dakota on January 13, 1962 to Maxine and Dennis Olson. He passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls.
He grew up in Montevideo, Minnesota and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1980. He went on to attend Canby Vocational Technical School where he earned his degree in parts management.
On November 5, 1988, Scott was united in marriage to Donna. With Donna came her two children, Nicole and Matt, who Scott loved as his own. A few years later, Scott and Donna welcomed Bethany into the world to complete their family.
Scott’s career was in the auto & farm parts and service industries in southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa, most recently at Ziegler, CAT, before his health prevented him from working any longer.
Scott loved the outdoors—fishing, hunting, and weekends at Lake Shetek. Family vacations weren’t complete unless there was a fishing lesson involved. He continued teaching the wonders of fishing to his grandkids every summer he could. Nothing made him happier than sharing the outdoors and silly jokes with his kids and grandkids.
He was man of few words, but when he spoke you knew you’d either laugh or be enlightened, or if you were Matt or Nicci you might get scolded. Even though his final years on earth were filled with many health challenges, he was always there for those who needed him.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna of Jackson; three children Nicole (Eric) Johnson of Sioux Falls, Matthew (Kristina) Sankey of White Bear Township, and Bethany Olson of Sioux Falls; granddaughters: Emma, Annika, Madelyn, Evelina, Harper, and Josefin; and aunts Faye Wahl and Betty Aune.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Dennis and Maxine Olson, brother Todd Olson, in-laws Adrian and Bernice Hendricks, his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
