Scott Olin Swanson was born on May 3, 1956, the youngest child of Melvin and Marie (Guritz) Swanson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, where he was a lifetime member. Scott graduated from Lakefield High School in 1974. He later went on to graduate from Jackson Vocational and Technical College in July of 1976, with his degree in Electronics technology. Scott enjoyed tinkering with anything electric. After college, Scott settled on the family farm, where he grew crops for most of his life. He enjoyed being able to continue the Swanson farming tradition. In 2016, Scott retired farming and began driving bus for JCC School District. He continued driving for the Livewire Printing Company, enjoying driving the Jackson County countryside delivering newspapers. In 1982, Scott met the love of his life and future wife Sandra Anderson at a dance in Westbrook, Minnesota. They were instantly inseparable. They were united in marriage on October 23, 1982 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield. This union was blessed with 3 children, as well as 9 grandchildren. Scott passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the age of 64 years, 11 months, and 2 days.

Scott had a passion for gardening. He was proud of his produce which included grapes, popcorn, watermelon and sweetcorn. Scott would often show up to his children’s home with handfuls of goodies for his family to enjoy. He produced some of the best tasting popcorn around. Music was a big part of Scott’s life. While he was not one to listen to the radio often, he thrived on making his own music, and mastered playing the guitar, banjo, concertina, harmonica, keyboard, and the fiddle. Scott has pages of handwritten sheet music for his family to treasure.  Scott enjoyed traveling the open road. He and Sandy would pack up the car and go with no official destination or plan in mind. Scott also liked traveling by Amtrak. He loved wherever the open road would take him. Spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren were a high importance in Scott’s life. He adored his grandchildren and loved each and every moment he spent with them.  Scott has left behind a lifetime of memories for his family to cherish.

Left to cherish Scott’s memory is his loving wife of 39 years Sandy; daughters Chelsey (Jeremy) Fricke, and Ashley (Ben) Clark; son Cody (Dannelle) Swanson; grandchildren Kailey, Ryan, Addison and Jase Fricke, Carly and Mason Clark, Annabelle, Adelind and Jacob Swanson; sister Janice Reyes; brother David (Patt) Swanson; brother-in-law Gary (Donna) Comstock; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Marie, sister Leila, brother Orval, nephew Kevin, brother-in-law Jesus Reyes, his grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

Blessed be the memory of Scott Olin Swanson.
