Sharon Lea Malchow, daughter of Raymond and Hazel (Scheff) Plumhoff, was born on Sunday, August 13, 1939, on the family farm in Fox Lake Township, Martin County, Minnesota. Sharon was baptized at home and later confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha. Her early education began at a country school in Trimont, later attending middle school in Alpha, and graduated from Jackson High School in 1957. Upon graduation, Sharon worked 12 years for 3M in Fairmont. This is where she met the love of her life Orlando “Orie”. On October 22, 1967, they were united in marriage at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Together they lived in various places in southwest Minnesota, and in 1980 they planted their roots in Windom. Sharon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha, where she played organ and piano, along with teaching Sunday School. When they moved to Windom, Sharon joined the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, where she was a current member. In 2016, due to health concerns, Sharon relocated to Jackson. On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, surrounded by her family, Sharon was joined with her Lord and Savior at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 11 days.
Sharon was a very kind and loving lady. She had a very strong faith. While at times, she may be stubborn, Sharon always had a kind heart, and was willing to help anyone out in a time of need. She had a rather large garden she tended to, and in the fall, she would be busy canning all of her garden goods. Sharon was a phenomenal baker, best known for her German chocolate cake, zucchini bread, and the kids favorite fluff Jello. Sharon was a classy lady, always dressed to the “nines,” always making sure her purse and shoes matched. She was an avid reader, loved music, watching movies, “especially anything with Clint Eastwood or John Wayne in them,” playing games with the grandchildren, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word searches. She was a talented sewer, (making many of Doreen’s outfits), and embroiderer. Above all things, Sharon loved spending time with her family, cherishing each and every moment she spent with them. Sharon will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Left to cherish the memories of Sharon are her daughter Doreen Goeman; grandchildren: Stephanie Ziesmer, Cody Ziesmer, Chealsey (Allen) Veen, Nikki Goettig, and John (Moriah) Kieper; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings Sonya (Elmer) Welch, and Steve (Marilyn) Plumhoff; along with many great friends and church family.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband Orlando “Orie” Malchow; her parents Raymond and Hazel, 5 great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law Sheila (Larry) Winther.
Blessed be the memory of Sharon Lea Malchow.
