Sharon Voss Obituary

Sharon Voss, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2022, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023, with a one-hour visitation prior to service. Pastor Phil Beukema will be officiating the funeral service. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Lakefield.

In lieu of flowers memorials to Immanuel Lutheran School are preferred.

 

Sharon Kay Voss was born on Sunday, October 6, 1935, at home in Summit Township, Everly, Iowa to Ben and Minnie (Fries) Ihnen. Sharon was baptized on January 26, 1947, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park, Iowa, and was confirmed as an adult on April 28, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley. Sharon graduated from Sioux Valley High School in May 1953. Sharon was united in marriage to Eugene Jerome Voss on June 17, 1954, in Worthington, Minnesota. Following their marriage, Eugene and Sharon lived and raised their family of 6 children on the Voss farm in Sioux Valley Township until 1983, when they moved into Lakefield. Sharon worked at Sather’s Candy Company in Round Lake, and as a cook at Sioux Valley School and the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson. She became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1983, where she was a member of the Immanuel Ladies Auxiliary.  Sharon lived at the Pines in Jackson for a short time, before becoming a resident of Colonial Manor Nursing Home where she passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 27 days.

Sharon’s faith in the Lord and love for her family were instrumental in her life. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman. Sharon raised a large garden and many chickens and ducks. She canned fruits and vegetables so her family always had delicious food to eat. Sharon was well known for baking breads and pies, especially her lemon meringue pie made from fresh picked lemons. Sharon enjoyed playing cards with friends, and we can still hear her laughter as they visited. Gene and Sharon loved spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona, along with spending time Texas, and Wyoming visiting family. Sharon will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Sharon is survived by her sons: Douglas Voss, Darvin (Cheryl) Voss, and David (Patrice) Voss; sons-in-law: Jim Hemphill, Troy Harms, and Perry Timmer; grandchildren: Heath (Sarah) Voss, Heather Voss, Emily (Daniel) Becker, Ashley (Mickey) Lair, Dustin (Amanda) Voss, Brandon Hemphill, Nicholas (Nichole Gullickson) Hemphill, Christopher (Mikelene) Hemphill, Michael Hemphill, Kassidy (Austin) Stith, Colton (Grace Grommesh) Timmer, Destiny Timmer, Jacob Harms and Jordyn Harms; great-grandchildren: Ryker Voss, Ellie Voss, Brooks Becker, Dominic Becker, Maura Becker, Cade Voss, Connor Voss, August Voss, Tate Lair, Dylan Lair, Caleb Hemphill, Averi Hemphill, Mason Hemphill, Noah Stith, and Marlee Stith; sister Verlene Place Walsh (Vernon); sisters-in-law: Ruth Ann Ihnen, Glenda Ihnen, and Donna Voss, along with many nieces and nephews.

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband Eugene, parents Ben and Minnie; daughters Denise Hemphill, Diana Harms and Dawn Timmer; siblings Carmen (Duane) Voehl, Ronald Ihnen and Arnie Ihnen; brothers and sisters in law Darold Place, Jim (Ruth) Voss, Lloyd (Marie Voss Winkel) Voss, John Voss Sr. Lillian (Harry) Weinandt and Luella (Abner) Brandt.
