Sommay Bounsavang

Sommay Bounsavang, age 76 of Jackson, Minnesota passed away, with family by his side, on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at his residence. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Jackson.

A Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Osterberg Funeral Chapel in Jackson. Burial at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Jackson will be held at a later date.

Sommay Bounsavang, son of Phoud and Nang Bounsavang was born on Sunday, February 2, 1947, in Champasak, Laos. He served in the Laotian Army during the Vietnam War.  In 1970, Sommay married Synouane Xaychaleun in Laos. They immigrated to the United States in 1978. Together they lived in Oakland, and Sacramento, California, before settling in Jackson in 1992. Sommay and Synouane were blessed with 3 children, Khammouane, Pramouane, and Homhouane. He worked at JBS in Worthington for 16 years. On Saturday, April 1, 2023, Sommay passed away, with family by his side at his residence in Jackson, at the age of 76 years, 1 month, and 29 days.

Sommay enjoyed fishing various places in Jackson, Fairmont, and Spirit Lake. He liked watching various videos on YouTube and listening to Lao music. Sommay loved spending time with his family. Sommay has left a lifetime of memories for his family to cherish.

Sommay is survived by his wife of 52 years, Synouane; daughters Khammouane (John) Holeton of Sioux Falls, SD and Homhouane (Jimmy) Bounsavang of Jackson, MN; grandchildren Stephanie, Nikkie, Annalisa, Myesha, Alana, Cooper;  great-grandchildren Paisley, and Kenzlie; brothers Outhay Bounsavang and Souvanh Bounsavang; sisters Onchanh Bounsavang and Bay Maysou, along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Sommay is preceded in death by his parents Phoud and Nang, son Pramouane Bounsavang.
