Stasia McCormick

Stasia McCormick, age 54, of Lakefield, passed away with family by her side on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Schensted officiating.

Stasia Marie McCormick, daughter of Lee and Marjean (Wittkopp) Olson, was born on Friday, January 10, 1969, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended school through the 6th grade in St Johns, Oregon and graduated from Lakefield High School. Stasia was confirmed and a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Mike Schultz. While this union was later dissolved, Mike and Stasia were blessed with 2 children Jess and Ben. On August 14, 2004, Stasia married Vaughn McCormick at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She worked a variety of jobs prior to starting at Toro in Windom where she worked for many years. She then moved on to the banking industry and started at First National Bank and recently the Savings and Loan in Lakefield. Due to health concerns, Stasia took a leave of absence in 2022. Along with her husband and family, she has spent the last year taking care of herself and living her life to the fullest. On Thursday, July 20, 2023, Stasia passed away surrounded by her loved ones at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 54 years, 6 months, and 10 days.

Stasia was very outgoing and had an upbeat personality. She enjoyed spending time outdoors: camping, kayaking, working in her flower gardens, and toddling around town on her pink scooter. Stasia was involved in bowling and golf leagues. Vaughn and Stasia enjoyed vacationing together, including places like Mexico, Florida, Duluth, California, Tennessee, Colorado, and many other states to visit family and friends.  She was an avid shopper, getting souvenirs on her excursions, and acquiring the neatest gadgets and decorations. Stasia enjoyed decorating and rearranging the house: always keeping her family guessing where things were. Stasia enjoyed listening to music, dancing, playing games, and painting. She was a Minnesota Vikings fan, making sure she never missed watching a game. She was very caring, always making sure others’ needs were met before hers. Above all things, Stasia loved spending time with her family, her dogs Gizmo and Gooch, and friends, cherishing each and every moment. Stasia’s beautiful smile, her contagious laughter and quick wit, will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Left to cherish the memories of Stasia are her husband of 18 years Vaughn McCormick; children Jessica (Chad) Emerson of Woodlawn TN, Benjamin Schultz of Lakefield MN, and; grandchild Jeremy Emerson; sisters Holli Olson of Cottonwood MN and Desiree (Dustin) Grunewald of Cottonwood MN; sister-in-law Lynette Olson of Lakefield MN, brother-in-law Bernard (Kristi) McCormick of Albertville MN, and sister-in-law Maria (Dean) Schreier of Currie MN; step-father Joe Peterson of Grandville ND; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nephew, tuzins, cousins, extended family members and great friends.

Stasia is preceded in death by her parents Lee and Marjean; brother Marlin Olson, grandparents, pets JJ and Allie, and many aunts, uncles, tuzins, and cousins.
