Wayne Schultze, age 88, of Lakefield, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, with Pastor Andrew Schensted officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakefield City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church are preferred.
Wayne Louis William Schultze was born May 14, 1934, in Tenhassen Township, Martin County, MN to Louis H. and Malinda (Thiesse) Schultze. He was baptized on May 20, 1934, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert, MN. He attended elementary school in Wilbert and attended Ceylon High School in Ceylon, MN, graduating in 1952.
He began his banking career at First National Bank in Heron Lake, MN and soon transferred to First National Bank in Fairmont, MN. He later transferred to Farmer's State Bank in Lakefield, MN where he stayed until retiring in 1984. He later worked for NW Insurance as a claim’s processor.
On June 6, 1954, Wayne was united in marriage to Beverly Maxine Olson at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. From this union they were blessed with three sons. Wayne was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield where here served on several committees and boards. He was also active in several Lakefield organizations.
Wayne was an avid golfer for over fifty years and enjoyed watching televised sports and solving word and number puzzles.
Wayne is survived by Beverly, his spouse of 68 years, and three sons: Mark and Edith (Bass) Schultze, David and Rebecca (Carlson) Schultze, and Thomas and Sherri (Hansen) Schultze; grandchildren: Shannon (David) Levine, Tony (Laural) Schultze, Amy (Randy) Martius, Wendy (Matt) Mahal, Ashley (Mark) Scheirel, Brittany (Andrew) Bell and Crista (Brock) Boerboom; and great- grandchildren: Anna and Miriam Levine, Bentley Martius, Olivia and Asher Mahal, and Grayson, Cooper, Lincoln and Callan Scheirel.
